Fisk Raises Millions Before Deadline

Fisk University sang the final notes of its familiar song of financial turmoil a few weeks ago when the university reached its fund raising goal of $4 million enabling it to receive a supplementary foundation grant to prevent the school from closing. For the historically black institution with a chronicled past of financial struggle, the achievement meant the past year's highly-publicized funding fiasco might finally be its last. (0) comments

The Tennessee Board of Regents voted unanimously April 25 to award honorary degrees to the Freedom Riders, former students who were expelled in 1961 from what is now Tennessee State University for participating in civil rights demonstrations. The 14 former students are to receive honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees in a ceremony to be announced at a later date. (0) comments

The recent budget amendment proposed by the Governor and approved by the General Assembly will reduce TSU's state appropriation by $3,163,250. TSU President Melvin N, Johnson explained the modifications made to the budget in a letter that was sent to the staff towards the end of the fiscal year. (0) comments

TSU will honor faculty and staff during the university's 4th annual Blue and White Awards ceremony on Friday, August 22 at 7 p.m. at the Airport Marriott. The annual recognition ceremony will pay tribute to TSU employees for their distinguished service to the 96-year-old university. (0) comments

Two Tigers lost in fatal crashes

TSU student James Jones Jr., 21, died as a result of a car accident in Chattanooga, Tenn. The crash involved three vehicles on Highway 153 early in the morning on June, 10. Jones was pronounced dead upon arrival to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn. (1) comment

Qudus Adeboyejo, 23, a former offensive lineman, was found dead in his off-campus apartment Monday evening by his roommate. Adeboyejo was immediately rushed to St. Thomas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. "Qudus was a hard working, dedicated young man. (0) comments
