TSU Tigerbelles win another indoor title

TSU Tigerbelle Dominique Ward Holmes was named Female Athlete of the Championship, as she won four gold medals to lead the Tigersbelles won the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championship on March 1.
This was the Tiger belles third Indoor title under Head Coach Chandra Cheeseborough (2002, 2003, and 2008).
"The one word that describes today is Outstanding," said Head Coach Chandra Chesseeborgh.
Outstanding is the word that summed up Tigerbelle Dominique Ward Holmes day.
Holmes took home three individual gold medals in the 55 meter dash, 200 meter, 400 meter dash and a team gold in the 4 x 400 meter relay.
For the past three seasons Holmes won the gold in the 200 meter and 400 meter dash but this year she was asked to carry more of the load for the Tigerbelles.
"Dominique is a special person,"said Chessseborough. "At the beginning of the season I asked her if she could run three events, she said yes and began to prepare her mentally because I knew physically she was going to be ready."
Holmes and teammate Tierra Boyd finish one and two in the 55 meter and the 200 meter dash.
In the 55 meter dash Holmes won with a time of 9.02 seconds while Boyd was right behind her with a time 9.12 second.
The 200 was dominated by the Tigerbelles who had three out of the top four finishers.
Boyd came in first with a time of 23.94 seconds, Boyd came in second with a time of 24.66 and Richesha Mccaleb finished fourth with a time of 25.52.
Holmes continued her dominance when she won the 400 meter dash with a time of 54.77. Her last event of the day was the 4x 400 meter relay.
Holmes was the anchor for team of Salisha Marryshow, Tierra Boyd and Danielle Abraham. The Tigerbelles won the relay with ease with a time of 3:48.75.
"I'm so glad that all my hard work has paid off," said Holmes. "It feels good to see all my hard work and tears pay off."
Coach Chesseebourgh was named Coach of the Year by all of the conferences coaches. As she walked over to her team she was greeted with a Gatorade bath.
"They were outstanding," said Cheeseborough. "All I did was put the right people in the right place."•
