Air line cancels more than 900 flights

American Airlines canceled more than 900 flights last Thursday, April 10, due to the inspection of certain jets. The flight cancellation is the third consecutive day of cancellations for American Airlines. The company has apologized to its costumers and has even offered vouchers and compensation for overnight stays. (0) comments

Though TSU will open a recycling facility on campus this summer, some students are already doing their part to honor the environment with their observance of Earth Day on Tuesday. Earth Matters Tennessee, a partner organization with Gateway 2 Heritage, will host an evening dedicated to Earth at the Belcourt Theatre. (1) comment

Tournament invades TSU

More than 1,300 people from 87 schools across the country came to TSU for the 38th National Forensic Association Championship Tournament shutting majority of the campus down for four days. Opening registration on April 17, competing for three days and closing the events with a concert and an after party, TSU made sure to show hospitality to its visitors. (0) comments

TBR revisits decision, awards degrees to Freedom Riders

The Tennessee Board of Regents voted unanimously April 25 to award honorary degrees to the Freedom Riders, former students who were expelled in 1961 from what is now Tennessee State University for participating in civil rights demonstrations. The 14 former students are to receive honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees in a ceremony to be announced at a later date. (0) comments

An alarming trend of reduced candidate pools in the Student Election Commission Week spring elections over the past three years has Student Affairs officials and student leaders concerned about student involvement in years to come. This year, there was only one candidate for SGA president, Patrick Walker-Reese. (0) comments

TSU's Clarence Ball and LaVita Tuff are international champions. Because of their outstanding performances throughout the year, Ball and Tuff were chosen to compete at the International Forensics Association Championship Tournament in London. "In order to prepare for London, we both performed at various places during spring break," said Tuff, a senior English major from Decatur, Ga. (0) comments

While the annual Blue and White football game brought back a host of local alumni to Hale Stadium this weekend, fans also eagerly awaited the announcement of the winners from Student Election Commission week. Patrick Walker-Reese, a junior history education major from Nashville was elected Student Government Association President. (0) comments

After an extensive search for a school and an ambassador to promote the many career opportunities offered by the Department of Defense, TSU's own Carol Hall was chosen to seal off the deal to the newly formed partnership. As part of the Student Training and Academic Recruitment Program, the a junior economics and finance and marketing major from Memphis is to work part-time on campus as an actual DoD employee next semester. A former TSU student, Terrance Jordan, was sentenced to two years in the federal penitentiary for a bank fraud scheme involving identity theft and the help of TSU students. "He enlisted other students to become involved in the scheme that involved obtaining credit cards and checking account information belonging to customers of a men's clothing store to fraudulently credit funds to the personal accounts of students at TSU," said TSU Police Chief Sylvia Russell.
