The TSU Lady Tigers defeated Nicholls State 63-61 on Saturday night in the Gentry Center Complex.

In the opening of the game, TSU took its first lead with a three pointer by guard Charisse Hicks. The Tigers continued to lead by 10 points before the Colonels used a 15-8 run to make the score 25-28 with 9:28 remaining in the first half.

TSU continued to outscore NSU to take the 42-31 lead with 3:31 left in the first half of the game. At halftime, TSU lead the game with a score of 44-36 going into the second half.

"At times we played well offensively," said head coach Tracee Wells. "There are some things that we need to work on and improve defensively."

With the 46-36 lead from a jump shot by junior guard Kendra Appling, TSU suffered a five minute scoring drought but fought back to grab the 53-41 lead.

Over the next few plays, TSU scored three points but NSU came back to tie the game to 56-56. Hicks scored a three pointer to make the score 61-58 with 3:42 left on the clock. NSU fouled and made two free throws to come back by one.

With the score now being 61-60, forward Jheri Booker's lay-up gave the Lady Tigers the 63-60 lead with only 56 seconds left on the clock.

A free throw from NSU brought the game to 63-61 but that would not be enough for the Colonels as they missed several jump shots within seconds of the game, giving the Tigers the 63-61 win.

Booker led TSU with a game high of 17 points and 11 rebounds for her first career double-double. Juniors Oby Okafor and Charisse Hicks also added in 15 points, while Okafor added 10 rebounds for a double-double.

"I feel overall we played well," said Booker, a sophomore education major from Summerville , Ga. "But in the second half of the game we played better as a team and it feels good to have a win at home."

With the win against Nicholls State , TSU improves its record to 1-1 for the season. The Lady Tigers will see action again as they face Saint Louis University on Tuesday Nov.20 at 7 pm in Gentry.•
