Tennessee State University lost the John A .Merritt Classic against rival Alabama A&M University with a score of 49-23 for the third time. The TSU offense was off throughout the entire game. More than $1 million in scholarships were awarded by TSU's Office of Admissions and Records to students who attended the university's ninth annual John Merritt Classic college fair. The Sept. 1 fair welcomed an excess of 700 students, families and other guests, who also received tickets to the John Merritt Classic football game against the Alabama A&M University Bulldogs later that day.
